Corfu, Greece

corfu1
Corfu Island is the second largest of the Greek Ionian Islands. Situated off the North West coast of Greece it affords stunning views of the mainland at exactly the point where Greece borders the mountainous terrain which constitutes the South Western coast of Albania. Famed for it’s natural beauty, idyllic sailing conditions and wonderful climate between May and October, Corfu is a well-known vacation destination for European travellers.

How to get there
The easiest way to get there for most of our Members will be to fly via Athens International Airport and connect there with an internal flight to Corfu. For our European Members it is sometimes possible to fly direct to Corfu with a charter company. Upon arrival in Corfu, take a taxi to Gouvia Marina, just to the North of the airport, the other side of Corfu Town. It’s a very short journey costing just a few Euros. The TradeWinds, Corfu office is located just behind the Marina General Manager’s office and TradeWinds Sensation is moored just in front.

Itinerary
Monday
At 5pm we are boarding Sensation for Greek Meze (a traditional assortment of Greek "tapas") and cocktails.

Tuesday Morning
We sail south to the beautiful Sivota Islands (Blue Lagoon was filmed here!). After spending the day relaxing and exploring this wonderful area we head into the quaint little port of Mourtos and tie up to the village quay to enjoy dinner.

Wednesday
We continue south to the famous island of Paxos. This is a great opportunity to buy yourself a culinary treat Paxos is renowned for the best Olive oil in Greece. We drop anchor for the night in the stunning blue waters of Lakka. Plenty of time to wander round the narrow alleys and small boutiques and pick up some of that famous olive oil!

Thursday
After breakfast we pull up the anchor and head out along the west coast of the island. The scenery is spectacular, towering cliffs are punctuated with numerous caves, one of which sheltered a submarine during the war! After a snorkeling stop at The Blue Caves we head onto Antipaxos for lunch. Depending on weather conditions we have a lovely afternoon sail back to the mainland and the historical town of Parga. We dine ashore at one of the numerous restaurants that this lively little town has to offer. We can also offer a great road train excursion to Ali Pasha’s castle.

Friday
A short sail brings us to beautiful Two Rock Bay. Uninhabited and with a small beach for each guest it truly is a wonderful spot! A good place to explore by kayak. We spend the night here.

Saturday
....sees us turning North to make a lunch stop at “Bombay” (so named by the TW Crew and guests when it was first discovered). We then continue to the tranquil anchorage of Ormiscous Valtou where we spend the night.

Sunday
We have a tranquil sail back towards Gouvia with fantastic views of the magnificent Venetian architecture of Corfu Old Town. After lunch and a swim in one of Gouvia’s numerous bays we head into the marina for a spot of Beauty and Dinner Out!

We are still discovering new beautiful places and as a result the itinerary is still very fluid and constantly refined. Wind direction is not quite as constant as we are accustomed to in the Caribbean and this too may affect the order in which we visit these wonderful places. In fact, winds are often light which means we do use our engines a little more than usual. We have had no complaints so far as it provides quite a different experience and the lake like waters are perfect for Dolphin Spotting! Nearly every week we have seen large schools of these beautiful animals!
The waters are slightly chilly in May and October so you may want to bring a wetsuit, 3mm would be ample.

Diving
SCUBA and snorkelling is spectacular. However, the water is colder than we’re used to in the Caribbean so if you want to SCUBA you’d be well advised to bring your wet suit. Due to local restrictions SCUBA diving is only available from certified Dive shops.

Food and Beverage
Staying true to TradeWinds traditions we will give the Corfu cruise a distinctive Greek flavour offering, amongst other things, plenty of feta cheese, lamb, Mediterranean fish, world famous ‘Spanakopita’ (spinach pie), the most virgin olive oil and more than a splash of Ouzo. Everything you could ever want from a Greek vacation.

Corfu island lies to the north of the Ionian sea at the entrance of the Adriatic.
It is the second largest island in the group known as the Seven Islands, or Eptanisa. Corfu is the island of miracles and wonders, where every moment the scene changes without affecting the harmony of the terrain.
